HDS Retail North America has chosen to step in and help those devastated by the recent events in Haiti through raising funds to donate to the Red Cross to help this organization’s current effort.
Less than a week after the devastating earthquake, HDS stores have started to implement donation boxes to gather customer and airport employee donations. Internally at the HDS head office, employees have an opportunity to give at least once a week through initiatives such as “Thursday Jean Day” event – a $2 donation allows those in the office to wear jeans for the day. HDS Retail will be matching employee‐raised funds dollar for dollar.
“Haiti is a neighboring country and many of us are acquainted with people of Haitian descent still with relatives on the island. In this time of mourning and desolation, we must think about those that are left behind to struggle back on their feet and offer our support,” says Gerry Savaria, President and CEO of HDS Retail. “In the short term, we must first help them survive in a hostile environment and we must then help them rebuild their lives and their hopes.” The company’s initiative in support of Haiti has received a warm welcome within HDS staff.
